12 Mar dead man’s hand

Aces ‘n’ eights. Sitting in a saloon in Deadwood, Wild Bill Hickock drew a hand of aces and eights when a gun-slinger named McCall strolled in and shot him in the back. The laws of random probability considered, it is unlikely that the aces and/or eights had much to do with William’s untimely demise, whereas it is statistically provable that the chances of being shot in a bar with cards in your hand are much higher than in other contexts (though lower than in Hickock’s day).
