A conscious phenomena of responsiveness. We respond to circumstances and to specific inputs with combinations of mental and physiological reactions. The mental reactions are part of cognition. The physiological responses vary but involve the respiratory, cardiovascular, and other body systems. These are often chemically induced and mediated by the limbic system (hypothalamus and amygdala).
