From the greek gnostikos [knowing] – sagacious, quick to recognize. Able to interpret form or combine elements to perceive the whole. In neurocognitive theory, gnostic cells are neurons that are capable of “knowing” about something or possessing memory of something complex (such as the image of Grandma’s face).
