24 Mar oligodendrocyte
A type of glial cell found in the brain that does what Schwann cells do in the peripheral nervous system: insulate axons from external electrical impulses. Without this insulation, spurious electrical activity could disrupt the normal patterns of electrical flow necessary to facilitate cognition.
