24 Mar organelle

A component of a cell that is functionally complex enough, albeit on a smaller scale, to be compared to an organ of the body. Nerve fibers are sometimes called organelles, but microtubules may fit the description better. While organ functions are governed by tissues, organelle functions are often governed by the properties of their constituent membranes. Examples of organelles are in the cross-references.
