11 Apr phoneme

The smallest unique units of speech sound speakers of a human language use to form morphemes, words, and sentences. Each language has its own set of between about 20 and 60 such unique sounds, but the set of all phonemes used by all humans is not likely to exceed 80 to 100. Phonemes typically do not bear meaning, but assume meaning as they are interconnected with other phonemes.
