Adenosine TriPhosphate is a nucleotide that carries chemical energy necessary to fuel biosynthetic reactions in cells. The third phosphate is formed as a result of the energy produced by oxidation in metabolizing foods. This phosphate can be split off by hydrolysis to release energy.
