This is a theoretical work that, though founded on strong research, is open to serious debate. The implications of the work of Hameroff & Watt are clear: if they are right, neurons can act like a computer’s memory or long-term storage. This would suggest that connectionist models may not capture all the complexity of cognition and that symbolic models with explicit storage of knowledge are acceptable models of the human thinking apparatus.
